Dr. John Boyd Jr. and Kara Boyd will share their experiences during an informal community conversation titled, “Keeping NC & VA Farmers Growing.” DIY winter nutrition boostersWinter nutrition is harder to come as we often rely on produce that is frozen, canned, or has traveled from a warmer climate.
Join us for this Homegrown Workshop where sustainability educator, Brooke Kornegay, will be discussing how to easily and successfully grow microgreens, winter baby greens and herbs. Participants will also learn how to make kombucha and will be invited to sample all of these homegrown nutrition boosters. Participants can take home a 10"x 20" tray, potting mix, and micro greens seed for additional cost. High Country Local First & Lettuce Learn to offer $1,500 in school garden funding. For every Local First Rewards Card sold, High Country Local First (HCLF) donates $5 to support local school garden programs in Watauga and Ashe Counties. Farm-to-school grant awards to total $1,500 will be given to local schools and preschools interested in building or expanding their garden-based education programming. Lettuce Learn (a program of Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture) is helping to manage the 2018 grant program in hopes of assisting schools and teachers with implementation, program sustainability, and professional development.
